Senior year went by so slowly because all I could think about was the fact that I would spend my entire summer in England. The thing I thought about the most was I may possibly meet the boys while I am there. It may have been a stretch but I loved the suspense of it all. I didn't make many friends my Senior year. The Neal dude did become my friend though. Everyone thought we were dating but we never got further than friends. Also a couple of girls from the soccer team and I became close. But the two friends I was going to bring with me were my friends who loved One Direction as much as I did! The first was my BFFL (Best.Friend.For.Life), Anne, her and I had known each other since birth. Before I moved we were joined at the hip. We did everything together. Since we could play soccer we were on the same team clear up into high school. We discovered One Direction together and completely fangirled over them. She was a petite dirty blonde with rich brown eyes that sparkled when she smiled.
My Sophomore year I met, Becca. All three of us became conjoined at the hips. Every moment we could get we would be hanging out. Becca wasn't an avid soccer player like Anne and I. She was a writer. It was normal to see her sitting during school with her little poem book out, scribbling down her newest inspirational poem. She was a lovely girl. She had stark black hair with the bluest of eyes I'd ever seen and tan skin that would become so dark during the summer. She was gorgeous and a huge fan of One Direction as well! We kept in touch throughout my Senior year. Especially since I felt so alone.
I remembered when I called them both up and told them the news. It was a three-way call and when I said the words, "Summer, England, and One Direction." They both began to scream into their phones! I then proceeded to tell them mom said I could take two friends with me and I'd chosen them. I felt like I'd gone deaf in one ear after that phone call.
To put some highlights of my Senior year: My soccer team won State and I got a full ride scholarship for soccer to my College of choice. The College actually wasn't that far away from where I currently lived. Neal and I would be attending together. I became one of the main starters. My skills didn't go unnoticed. Robby and his football team won State as well. Pretty good for him being a Junior and the starting Quarterback. He had a lot of pressure on his shoulders and I was there the whole way to support him when I didn't need to be at soccer. It was quite the year.
Now it was the day after graduation and in the morning I would be boarding my flight to England. I would have a layover in Iowa where would meet up. I was so full of excitement that packing was nigh impossible. I had been packing all week, not knowing what to bring. My closet was full of fashion worthy clothes. I packed my favorite outfits. I was studying my room trying to find anything else I might need when there was a knock on the door. I jumped a bit because I had my music on and I didn't think anyone was home yet. The knock came again and I asked, "Who's there?"
"It's Neal," came the reply.
I smiled. Neal had become a good friend. He was over here more than anyone else I'd gotten to know here. "Come in." He opened the door and smiled when he saw me. "How are you?" I asked.
"I'm doing well. I'm going to miss you though," he confessed as he plopped himself down on my bed next to my suitcase. Like always his eyes ran over the posters of One Direction. Neal was the only friend I'd made this year who knew about my obsession with the boys. He liked their music, I'd gotten him that far into being a Guy Directioner but other than that... Nothing.
"I'll be back before College starts and then we can party it up together. You can call me everyday if you want and we can catch up. You're going to Greece for a good month or so aren't you?" I teased. He didn't look at me and that's when I knew something definitely was wrong. I sat down next to him patted his back and asked, "What's wrong Neal?"
He shook his head, "It's nothing. I'm just going to miss you."
I stood up, placed my hands on my hips and stared down at him hard. "Neal John Decker! You tell me the truth right now. I'm going to miss you too! I am going though and as my friend you shouldn't worry. I'm coming back."
He finally looked up at me and I sucked in my breath when I saw his face. He really was going to miss me. I couldn't possibly understand why. We were just friends and we would still be friends when I got back. "It's just that..." He looked away not able to look at me anymore.
I had a feeling I knew what he was about to say. So I quickly stood up and said, "Will you help me finish packing? I'd help you pack up for Greece if I would be here when you did.."
He sighed, "Sure."
I hugged him. "Thanks you're the best friend anyone could ask for!" He hesitantly hugged me back and I moved away quickly. In a few minutes I was completely packed. My outfit for tomorrow laid out on my desk and my bags upstairs by the front door. Neal and I then decided to sit down in the theater room and watch a movie until I had to go to bed. I began to fall asleep about in the middle of the movie and soon found my head on his shoulder. He put his arm around me and I fell asleep in the arms of my friend. When I awoke to my alarm clock I was in my bed, wondering how I'd gotten there.
I quickly got out of bed, quietly wondering when Neal had left and how I'd wished I'd been able to say goodbye. I showered and got ready. I did my makeup extra special to make my sea-green eyes pop and my naturally curly hair cooperated by going into its perfect beach curls. I smiled. I absolutely adored my clothing. Skinny blue jeans, white v-neck shirt, nicely fitting tan leather jacket, all complete with my sneakers. I rushed up the stairs, hugged my family goodbye and hopped into my car. The journey of a lifetime was about to begin and I couldn't be more ecstatic!
