My senses were buzzing as I went through baggage check and then waiting at the gate to board the plane. Anne and Becca were constantly texting me their excitement with being able to see me in a couple hours. They weren't getting on their plane until an hour or so after me because they lived closer to Iowa then I do now. The intercom in the airport announced my flight was now boarding. I stood up, bag over shoulder, phone in hand and got in line to enter the plane. My body had chills all over. I was so excited to finally experience England! :)
I was flying coach which really isn't bad. Especially with the fact that once I landed in Iowa my flight changed to First Class because we didn't land again until London. Which according to twitter was where the boys would be for the entire summer. You couldn't ever completely trust twitter because there were so many rumors flying around on there. It would honestly be nice to meet the boys and just clear the air.
Reaching my seat, I placed my carry-on between my feet. It really was just my bag from school filled with stuff I would need for the next 18 hours. I settled into my chair and waited for the plane to take off. I was SO anxious.
Finally everyone was on and the normal flying ritual began. Instructions on how to use the oxygen, seat flotation device, etc. As the plane began to move forward I had to bottle up my excitement that I was finally on my way!!
The flight to get to the lay-over in Iowa felt like an eternity. Probably because I had no one to talk to and only my music to entertain me and the view outside my window. When we landed, I got off the plane, grabbed a bite to eat, and made my way to my new gate. When I got thee, I was all alone. This flight wasn't going to be taking off for another 45 minutes. Anne and Becca were going to meet me here in a few minutes, according to hen their flight was supposed to land.
As I was throwing away my garbage, I heard, "El! Ella! El!" I turned to my left and started to laugh and bean from ear to ear! My eyes saw Anne and Becca booking it down the halls trying to get to me as fast as they possibly could.
Anne reached me first throwing her arms around me and squeezing me to death. I hugged her back, swaying side to side from not seeing each other in over a year! Becca was next. Her hello was a little more reserved but I still knew how happy she was to see me. After exchanging hello's we sat down where I had been and waited to board our adjoining flight.
My phone started to ring in my bag. I searched for it and when I found it, I read, "Neal." "Why's Neal calling me?" I asked out loud.
Anne and Becca both perked up at my question. "Is this the Neal you've been telling us about all school year?" Anne inquired.
I nodded and held up my finger to indicate to them to hold on. "Hello?" I said answering my cell.
"Hey El!" Neal's voice rang in my ear.
"What's up?"
"Well I knew you'd be waiting for your connection flight right now. So I called to ask you something," he spoke hesitantly, which piqued my interest.
"Alright, shoot," I replied.
There was silence on his end and I became worried that maybe I wouldn't want to answer this question. He cleared his throat. "Are you going to forget I exist? I know it sounds silly but..."
All my air rushed out of my lungs and I laughed. "Forget you? Neal get real! If anything you'll go to Greec meet a gorgeous Greek girl and forget all about little El from Astoria."
Neal started to laugh along with me for a moment until he became serious and said, "I could never forget about you, El."
I swallowed my laughter. Anne and Becca were giving me curious glances. I didn't know what to say to that. Luckily right then the announcement that our flight was now boarding echoed around the airport. "I'm sorry Neal but I have to go. Have fun in Greece! Hope to hear again from ya soon! Bye!" I said into my phone.
"Okay bye," he replied and then hung up.
I looked up at my friends and told them I would tell them later. They nodded and we got in line. As we entered the gate we all gazed at each other with major excitement in our eyes! We were on our way to England! Ahh!! We couldn't believe we were actually going.
Once everyone was seated, we were on our way. I saif, "Next stop London!" And we all started to giggle.
